In leading up to Mother’s Day, Help One Now wanted to celebrate a few of the incredible women from our communities. They work tirelessly to care for orphaned and vulnerable children, doing everything from providing meals to helping them get an education. They are mothers in the best sense of the word. Now that Mother’s Day is here, let’s spend some time with Mercedes Malpartida. Mercedes is the director of Kairos Ministries in Iquitos, Peru–a town of nearly 600,000 on the Peruvian Amazon that is only accessible by boat or plane. Mercedes and her husband Noe launched Kairos 20 years ago to build bridges to the communities of Belen and Iquitos through education, care for vulnerable children, and counseling and support for struggling familes. Mercedes tragically lost Noe a few years ago, but she continues to lead and build Kairos Ministries with her son, Willie. She works tirelessly to see her dreams become reality, as evidenced by the over 500 students that are now receiving education and, more importantly, hope for their future. In honor of Mother’s Day, would you consider helping Mercedes continue to lead the children of Iquitos and Belen towards a better future? Join Help One Now’s #TenDollarTribe and help Mercedes and Willie continue to dream about how they can keep building hope in Iquitos and Belen.
