Help One Now's Global Response To COVID-19
Help One Now is raising awareness and funds for vulnerable communities around the world affected by COVID-19. The mission of Help One Now is to empower families in developing countries through high-capacity local leaders with proven solutions to end extreme poverty. We know there will be drastic economic repercussions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we have made significant cuts to our stateside and international budgets to prepare for that. This campaign is not an effort to boost our fundraising during a difficult time…it is literally an effort to help our partners keep families alive in their communities, and to spread that burden out so that we can all carry the load!
With countries going on complete lockdown and trade coming to a near halt, vulnerable families are no longer able to rely on the local economy for the little income they already had. Additionally, most children in these communities receive their only daily meal from school, all of which are now closed. In short, closed borders mean food scarcity and higher prices. Closed schools mean children may go days without a meal. Many in the developing world are fearing hunger, not the virus.
We are aiming to keep families together and give them the support they need to not only survive this pandemic, but continue to grow and thrive when it’s over. The local leaders we partner with in these communities are providing crucial food support for these families, as well as hygiene supplies to keep themselves healthy and safe from the virus. They are also providing education materials to help their communities best understand how to keep themselves and others safe during this challenging time.
Our partner communities have made incredible progress over the past 10 years, shifting from relief work to true development work…empowerment. We MUST show up now with relief in order to keep families alive and together, so that when this is over, we can continue the work of empowerment. If we don’t, we may see many of these communities lose 10 years of progress in a matter of months.
