Help One Now tribe…I hope this message finds you well.  We want to let all of you know about a hardship that is currently facing our friends in Haiti.  As many of you know, life in the country of Haiti is both beautiful and tragic…and always challenging.

The latest challenge to hit this resilient nation is a mosquito-borne virus called Chikungunya.  This illness is currently spreading across the Caribbean.  The most common symptoms are high fever and extreme joint pain lasting about a week.  Chikungunya does not often result in death, but the symptoms can be severe and disabling.  There is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat Chikungunya virus infection; however, once a person has been infected, he or she is likely to be protected from future infections.  HERE is a link to the CDC website for more information on the disease.

As of now, nearly half of the children at Yahve Shamma Village have had to endure this illness…and more than likely, all of them will eventually go through it.  It will likely spread throughout the island over time and hit our kids in Drouin and Ferrier as well.  We want you all to know that we are in contact with our leaders and helping in any way we can…though there is not much we can do.  We want to ask you all to be in prayer for the people of Haiti…and especially for Pastor Gaétan and the children of Yahve Shamma Village.

Thank you.
