Last Fall I had the privilege of teaching a group of pastors (and aspiring pastors) in the great country of Haiti. Pastors Nate Akin and Clint Darst accompanied me, as we taught the first of six seminars. This particular seminar focused on pastoral leadership. What a joy it was to walk the students through 1-2 Timothy and Titus. I worked through these books laying the foundation for a life of service in the church, stopping at various points for discussion and questions. Our discussions were very fruitful, challenging, and encouraging. We finished the last day by talking about thepractice of sermon preparation. I was greatly encouraged by the students’ commitment to teach the Word and love people. We didn’t have the best lighting in the world, but the Lord supplied spiritual light. Guys described the experience with many humbling and encouraging words. When we finished, the students stood and clapped, and one brother said, “I want to kiss you!” It was incredibly moving. I get to teach in a lot of settings, but teaching this group of men ranks as one of my favorite contexts of all time. I look forward to going back soon. Pray for us as we try to fulfill our commitment to teach the following subjects: 1. Fall: Pastoral Leadership 2. Spring: Theology 1 3. Fall: Old Testament Survey 4. Spring: New Testament Survey 1. Fall: Theology 2 2. Spring: Missiology (Church Planting, Social Justice) Pray that Haiti will be filled the godly, people-loving, gospel-preaching pastors, and that churches and communities will be strengthened and blessed as a result of our labor there.
